Prayers in the Liturgy
I am guilty of sometimes not paying close attention to some of the prayers the priest reads at Mass out of the Missal. I'm guessing I'm not alone in this. So from time to time I will highlight one of these prayers for our readers.
To start off, I'm going to post the Prayer Over the Offerings in the liturgy for August 28, 2016, the 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time in Cycle C: "May this sacred offering, O, Lord, confer on us always the blessing of salvation, that what it celebrates in mystery it may accomplish in power. Through Christ our Lord."
Does this simple prayer not say it all? We pray that the mystery of the Eucharist, which we can't fully understand and yet in which we gratefully participate, by its power bring about our salvation.
I pray that Catholics might more fully appreciate the power and majesty available to us in the Eucharist and share this gift with those who do not presently share that appreciation.
