Right on, Deacon Tim. Science and politics alone can't solve our earthly problems. And how can we hope that even God will help us solve our problems when our culture and some of our laws are operating in opposition to him. Thank you for your clear words. And you, too, Cindy.

I'd like to clarify if I may that you seem to suggest that Barack Obama's message of hope is one based upon science and religion and he is somehow promising that we can have a heaven on earth without God.
To the contrary, Barack Obama is a faithful Christian and is one of the few politicians to have written and spoken about the subject of religion and the role of faith in politics. To quote his basic faith principle and I am taking this verbatim from his website:
"God is constantly present in our lives, and this presence is a source of hope."
His hope is through God, not without. It is hope of what we can accomplish in our country as a people of many faiths. Faith has been a bedrock of this country and is what should guide us to hope. Please don't confuse his message, and you can read much more under www.barackobama.com, please see "issues" and then "faith". It is a strong reason why as an ardent Catholic, I support his candidacy.
I also applaud the Pope's visit, it is great blessing to us. To me, the messages are similar - hope through God. Lastly, from the Obama website, I quote:
"Government alone cannot solve all of our problems – we have an individual responsibility to be our brother’s keeper and our sister’s keeper". To me, this is what Jesus asks us to do, to help one another, our government can't solve all of our problems, our moral values springing from our faith in God is the only way to make this country truly better - in God we trust.
