This is such an important topic. We get so busy in this fast-paced, high-tech world. I know I go to bed with to-do lists on the brain and wake up thinking more of the same. It takes work to focus our minds on God and convince ourselves to take time out at the beginning of (and throughout) our day to seek God. I know that when I start my day in prayer and reading God's Word that the day always seems to go much smoother, though. Rather than taking 30 minutes or an hour away, it seems to multiply my time and efficiency.
I'm working on my prayer life right now. I am not a good pray-er. I really do not like to pray out loud and in public, but too often I don't take time or organize my thoughts enough to pray silently either. I have a real ADD thing going when I start to pray and the to-do lists start trying to jump to the forefront. I'm going to start keeping a prayer journal to help me keep on track with space in front for the sort of things I pray for on a daily basis as well as things I'd like to see come to pass with room to record when and how the prayer was answered.
Something you said really blessed me. You said your first thoughts are about God and telling Him how much you love and appreciate him. It's so important to have that attitude of thanksgiving. God is our heavenly Father. As a parent, I can imagine how it would feel if my children never acknowledged all I have done for them or told me they love me and appreciate me. Too many people are always busy asking God for things and making promises they don't really intend to keep--bargaining with God. They are too busy seeking the blessings rather than the Blesser.
